Corrosion Resistant Copper Tubes

Copper tube when initially installed will start a natural reaction with the oxygen dissolved in the water to form its own protective layer of copper oxide on the inner surface.

In drinking water applications the surface of the protective layer will react with the gases and salts which are contained in the water. Above the protective layer, a coating layer is formed which predominantly consists of basis copper carbonates (predominantly malachite). Depending on the composition of the water, this layer varies from turquoise blue to a deep green, (normally green) in cold-water systems to a brown shade in hot-water ones.

If an installation is left for sometime before use or is not flushed properly then the natural layer may not form correctly and therefore there is a higher risk of internal corrosion.

A major selling feature of Lawton Tubes domestic size copper tube is that a pre coated oxide bore is applied at the manufacturing stage to copper tube sizes 15x0.7, 22x0.9 and 28x0.9mm. This visible matt orange tint is to enhance the corrosion resistance for the life of the product.

Our pre coated tube can be used for any domestic installation applications irrespective of whether the tube is used for drinking water supply (hot or cold), heating systems, oil, gas supplies or thermal solar systems.
