Lawton Tubes New HQ -Coming Soon

Our new Lawton Tubes site in Coventry has been a hive of activity ever since our First Dig ceremony in January, and everyone has been hard at work ever since!

Our new site, across the road from our existing HQ, will allow us to more than double our capacity, improving our efficiency in delivering customer satisfaction, and investing in the community and surrounding area.

When we received word that we were being recognised for this investment, through the Made in Midlands – ‘Investment Project of the Year’ Award, we were honoured.

Lawton Tubes, Operations Managing Director, said:

“We are happy to be recognised as a nominee for the Made in Midlands Award, highlighting the benefits our project will provide for the surrounding area. The New Lawton HQ is progressing on schedule, and our contractors, Interclass, have been working hard throughout the project and we are satisfied with the outcome to date.”

Being nominated for the award is encouraging, proving for us that our work has been recognised by the local community as a project that will have positive impact for them.

Interclass, our building contractors, have been excellent with the progression, and shared the specifics in how their work is continuing, following initial developments with Wodehouse, the groundworks contractor.

Sara Barnes, Pre-construction and Marketing Manager, said:

“We are pleased to report that the project has got off to a great start and things are progressing well on site. After some early enabling works by Wodehouse, we’ve been fully set up on site since the end of March, with cabins and welfare facilities now in place.

“We’re currently breaking out the existing slabs and foundations from the old building and crushing them to provide material for re-use on site later. You will no doubt have seen the small mountains that have appeared to the front of the site over the past few weeks, this is stockpiles of the crushed material.

“Work has begun on the cement stabilisation of the ground ready to provide a solid level base for the new building. Cement stabilisation involves mixing cement, with existing soils and water to create a firmer and more durable platform with greater load bearing capacity. This technique has enabled us to re-use existing soils on site rather than cart away which is better for the environment and more cost effective.

“We have also been busy preparing the piling platforms around the perimeter to the rear of the site ready for the installation of the new retaining walls in the coming weeks. All activity now is focused on preparing the ground, so progress might not be that visible yet, but everything is going to plan and remains on programme. Over the next few weeks cement stabilisation of the ground will continue across the site and foundations for the new building will be commence in May in preparation for the steelworks arriving in June. This will be an exciting stage, as the building will really start to take shape.”

You can view the video below to see the build progress over the last 3 months in our time-lapse video.

At Lawton Tubes we also are keen to highlight our commitment to reusing existing materials where possible, aiding in our desire for improving our sustainability as a manufacturer as well as cost efficiency, a desire that Interclass shares too.

Progress of our HQ Build for Lawton Tubes in Coventry.

We will continue to provide more updates as the site progresses, and we hope to see the foundations start to show as time goes on.
