Lawton NextGen

A campaign and movement to tackle the skills industry gap and to inspire future generations about alternative career pathways within the construction industry.

At Lawton Tubes, we believe in our industry – not just the products we sell, but the people too.

When we heard about the skills gap within construction – especially plumbers and air conditioning engineers, not only could it impact future business, but it impacts our lives too.

Recent figures highlight a major challenge facing our industry. Around 750,000 people under the age of 24 are currently unemployed, while the construction sector is expected to need around 1,000,000 skilled workers by 2032. At the same time, only 8% of tradespeople are under 24, and 25% of the current workforce is due to retire within the next five years.

The message is clear: we need more skilled workers now, not tomorrow. That is why Lawton Next Gen has been created.

Before we launched this campaign, we also took on a sustainability movement, touring around colleges in the UK to educate the next generation of engineers to come on the importance of sustainable materials, and especially, copper.

We offer educational and interactive sessions, including presentations for plumbing students, HVAC students, and industry organisations, taking a closer look at the essential roles of copper and HVAC systems.

From the fundamental properties that make copper indispensable, to the intricate workings of heating, ventilation and air conditioning, our educational sessions are designed to engage and inspire. We also offer practical sessions to showcase a range of tools and products, teach students traditional methods used within real-life industry, and to compete head-to-head to win prizes that can help boost their careers
to the next level.
